Sun Pillars, Benmore, Birmingham [2007 – 2008]
Optima Housing Association 'Constellations' public art scheme.
A project to re connect and identify a residential area through a light work, through engagement with Benmore after- school play project. Workshops with the play group that ran parallel to studio sessions with lead artist Nayan Kulkarni and Martin Lupton of BDP lighting, led to the development of an intervention allowing light and colour to penetrate shade imposed by the tower blocks in the area, prevalent around times of increased public activity. The work focused upon re - imagining the superficial structures of the tower blocks to allow ordinary experiences of sunlight to become something both intimate and extraordinary.
